Audio Mostly 2011. "A conference on interaction with sound" in co-operation with ACM – SIGCHI, 07.-09.09.2011, Coimbra, Portugal
Audio in all its forms – music, sound effects, or dialogue – holds tremendous potential to engage, convey narrative, inform, create attention and enthrall. However , in computer-based environments, for example games and virtual environments, the ability to interact through and with sound are still today underused. The Audio Mostly Conference provides a venue to explore and promote this untapped potential of audio by bringing together audio experts, content creators and designers, interaction designers, and behavioral researchers. The theme this year is "Sound and Context".

The Soundtrack of Conflict: The role of music in radio broadcasting in wartime and in conflict situations, 15.-17.09.2011, University of Göttingen
Since the advent of the mass medium radio, scholars from various disciplines have investigated both the positive and negative potential of radio broadcasting in conflict situations and in wartime, including as a channel of information warfare. The role of music in radio broadcasting in these contexts has however only rarely been addressed. This interdisciplinary conference aims to promote a global, historical and comparative approach to this issue, and we encourage scholars in the fields of musicology (all branches!), history, law, political science, social and cultural anthropology, sociology and other relevant disciplines as well as practitioners to submit abstracts for papers or posters relating to the general topic.

Die FROG11 bringt führende internationale Wissenschaftler/innen, Game Designer, Spielende, Lehrende, Sozialpädagog/innen und Erziehende nach Wien, um sich gemeinsam der Zukunft und der Realität des Computerspielens zu widmen. Liszt and the Arts. International Interdisciplinary Conference, 11.-14.11.2011, Budapest

2. Call for Papers
CfP: International Congress of the Gesellschaft für Musikforschung, 4.-8.09.2012, Göttingen "Music | Music. Structures and Processes"
Since around the mid-twentieth century, it has become increasingly common to use the word "musics", rather than "music", in order to do justice to the plurality of different phenomena to be captured under that term. This Congress will provide a forum for the discussion of research into musical structures, the structures that are necessary for music to happen at all, and the impact of the one on the other. It will promote the analysis of musical processes as well as the larger-scale historical, cultural and social processes in which musical structures in turn transform and adapt, just as the environment in which these occur is also in a state of constant transformation. Researchers are herewith invited to participate in this stimulating discussing by submitting proposals for symposia, round table, poster sessions and individual papers.
Deadline for applications: Free symposia, round table, poster sessions: 31.06.2011; Free papers/posters: 31.12.2011. Applicants for symposia, round tables and poster sessions will be informed of the decision by 15.11.2011, applicants for free papers/posters by 31.03.2012. Languages of the Congress: German, English. The International Congress will host the CIM12: Conference on Interdisciplinary Musicology 2012. HISTORY, Göttingen, 4.-5.09.2012

The CIM series exists to promote and facilitate innovative collaborations between different areas of music research, musical practise, and other academic disciplines. By insisting on a minimum two authors/disciplines per paper, and through a peer-review system for abstracts, CIM both actively promotes exchange between different methods and research epistemologies and encourages excellence in these interdisciplinary endeavours. In 2012, CIM will tackle the subject of History. Hosted by the University of Göttingen, whose one time music director Johann Nikolaus Forkel is widely regarded as one of the founders of music historiography, CIM12 aims to promote collaborations that provoke and explore new methods and methodologies for establishing, evaluating, preserving and communicating knowledge of music and musical practises of past societies and the factors implicated in both the preservation and transformation of such practices over time. The focus will be the particular potential offered by interdisciplinary contributions to extending our understanding of music of the past, of its role in other social, cultural and political processes, and of processes of transformation of musical cultures and practices.

CfA: The Italian Journal of Game Studies: All of us Players. Pathways in the diffusion of digital gaming: relocations, pervasiveness, gamification.
For its first issue, G|A|M|E proposes an inquiry into the diffusion of the videogame medium outside of its established contexts: a phenomenon that leads us to reconsider the object of our research as part of a wider media ecology. Transformations in interface design make it difficult to map the boundaries of video gaming as a field, and, with the spread of a ludic paradigm, many other products are being turned into games. From the logic of gamification to geo-localization, and from mobile applications to the ludic sociability of Farmville, we are witnessing videogames' invasion of the spaces and temporalities of everyday life. We are inviting scholars from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines to tackle this subject, focusing on the issues specific to this new challenge in the field of game studies.
Submitting a proposal G|AM|E welcomes any proposals concerning the general theoretical issues of this CFP, as well as analyses of one or more significant texts (videogames, audio-visuals, books and graphic novels, etc.). Proposals may be submitted in both Italian and English. Abstracts should not exceed 800 (eight hundred) words, not including bibliography. Completed articles will be accepted for review. Final contributions should not exceed the limit of 5.000 (five thousand) words, or 30.000 characters. All proposals will undergo an anonymous peer review process.
